Most important question1Recently, I was shopping on Etsy for a variety of items. As I clicked open a few search results, I found myself squinting at the photos and asking the same question over and over.

I peeked into the description details below the photo for the answer. Most of the time, I found a satisfying response.

But a couple times, the question just got louder. And I realized that that question is the single most important one for every online shop owner as they stare at blank product description boxes.

If you aren’t sure what to write… ask yourself the following…

“But what IS it?”

It really is that simple. Too many business owners pass up this opportunity to describe their product because either they can’t think of a clever way of explaining their products (and decide they will tackle that later when inspiration strikes) OR that their product is so simple and obvious that a description isn’t necessary.

Don’t be that shop. You don’t need to be clever and you don’t have to talk down to your readers.

Just be honest… “This is a {noun}, made of {noun} and {noun} with {nouns}”

Boring? Maybe. But as a shopper, I’m much more likely to think “Ah! That’s what I was looking for!” instead of just clicking away.

And then when you do feel inspired, you can go back and Freshen up your product descriptions.
